An island twist on a classic Derby Day drink. You will need to have previously prepared sorrel (boiled hibiscus) in your refrigerator for this one. Let’s get started.
Hibiscus Mint Julep

Ingredients
- 4 springs of fresh mint
- 3 ounces of top shelf Bourbon whiskey
- 1 ounce of sorrel liquid (boiled hibiscus, previously prepared, already sweetened)
- 1 cup of ice
- 2 teaspoons of powdered sugar
- 4 teaspoons of water
Instructions
- In a bar shaker, muddle the mint leaves of 3 sprigs of mint and all of the powdered sugar and water. Save the remaining sprig of mint for later.
- Fill the serving glasses with ice.
- Add the Bourbon whiskey and sorrel to the bar shaker.
- Cover the bar shaker and shake it heartily.
- Remove the bar shaker cover and pour the mint julep into the serving glasses.
- Garnish with the remaining sprigs of mint, find a comfortable chair and enjoy.
